Such a Candle gives an engaging treatment of another overlooked yet important figure from Christian history - 16th century English bishop, reformer and martyr Hugh Latimer.

Latimer was burned at the stake along with Nicholas Ridley for certain denials of Rome's doctrine of the Mass.  Latimer's words to Ridley on the day of their death are reflected in the title of the book:

"Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man; we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust shall never be put out."
